William Fridrich's 'Road Kill' opening at 621N4TH August 6th

William Fridrich studied visual art, sculpture, and photography at UCLA. He furthered his vocational education through various jobs at west coast-based motorcycle magazines, and a graphical semaphoric stint in the U.S. Army as a combat illustrator. He then launched a successful graphic design career in the early 1970’s beginning with a job at Standard Brands Paint Company. Introduced to the Dada and Surrealist movements by his wife, art historian Marsha McKee, William became clinically obsessed with Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, and Joseph Cornell. Thankfully, for all of us, he has yet to recover. William's show is built of pieces from his recent past and will be on display at 621N4TH through August. Opening reception will be August 6th at 6:00 p.m. 621N4TH is an artist run gallery, studio and "offspace" located in the heart of Downtown Wilmington's Brooklyn neighborhood.

The Fiber Art of Jan Lewis at WAG through August 26th

Fourth Friday--July 23--will kick off a new featured artist exhibit at the Wilmington Art Gallery. This display highlights "The Fiber Art of Jan Lewis." Through the textural effects of fiber and collage, her pieces exhibit the use of natural and synthetic materials woven together to create landscapes and abstract designs. As the viewer's eye moves through the fibers, a unique dimension emerges from each piece--offering the viewer an exciting experience. Vibrant color combinations... blended with more subtle hues reflect the artist's own unique style. "The Fiber Art of Jan Lewis" continues through August 26 at the Wilmington Art Gallery, 616 Castle Street -- in the Art and Antique District. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

Michelle Connolly's 'Archetypes' at Caffe Phoenix July 14th

Michelle Connolly's first collection of oils invites the viewer to escape into snapshots of forest creatures and settings from folklore and literature. According to Connolly, "the idea of 'archetypes' to illuminate personality suggests the existence of forms that channel experiences and emotions, resulting in recognizable and typical patterns of behavior with certain probable outcomes." Since moving to their new location, Caffe Phoenix has made exhibiting fine art an even greater priority by installing much improved lighting, ample viewing area, and remains dedicated to promoting local artists with new exhibitions opening monthly. Artist's reception for Michelle Connolly on Wednesday July 14th from 6-9pm at Caffe Phoenix's new location: 35 North Front Street in downtown Wilmington.
